“One of the finest and most entertaining British-based exponents of global music” (The Guardian)
With four internationally acclaimed studio albums and over fifteen years of expertise in traditional styles of music from across the Balkans, this versatile, virtuosic, prize-winning band has played WOMAD, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, festivals in Germany, Hungary, Cyprus, Norway and Poland, at London’s Kings Place and Southbank Centre and Aldeburgh’s Snape Proms and regular live sessions on BBC Radio.
Their shows are an expertly crafted, multi-lingual exploration from the Baltic to the Black Sea: they bring together melodies and rhythms of Bulgaria, treasured traditions from Serbian village, fiery Gypsy dances from the Romanian mountains, soulful Albanian and Armenian songs as well as Sephardic and klezmer music from Turkey, Macedonia, Poland and Ukraine.
