Malmesbury Abbey Saturday 29th June 2019 7.30pm
A welcome return of this choir, who will present a programme entitled “The Good Morrow”, after John Donne’s famous poem. Themed on love, the programme has as its backbone the beautiful Mass in E flat for double choir by Josef Rheinberger.
Around movements of the Mass are pieces that evoke sentiments from the poem, including music by James Macmillan, Roxanna Panufnik, Bob Chilcott, Britten’s “Five Flower Songs” and some lighter arrangements.
The centrepiece of the concert is a new work written especially for The Oriel Singers by Alissa Firsova, a setting of the poem “The Good Morrow” itself, in its official World Premiere performance.
